Online Journal:
Into the Mess Hall is continually accepting submissions of visual, performative and literary art. Hosting an online space for subversive artists of all mediums is our longest standing project. It’s been through a thousand iterations. We’re excited to present Into the Mess Hall and are glad to have your accompaniment.
Disquiet poetry collection:
We are accepting poetry submissions to compile into a printed poetry collection. This collection is not themed. However, pieces should speak to what we seek at Stain’d Arts. We are looking for poetry that it unusual, surprising, unconventional and subversive. We are looking for poems that are honest and brave, well-crafted and articulated with subtlety.
Guidelines:
We ask for a $5 reading fee per submission. We are a primarily volunteer run nonprofit, and small fees allow us to continue this work. If you are unable to make this payment, please simply fill out the waiver to say hello and tell us what’s up. We are totally non-judgmental, and are only trying to balance sustainability with making art accessible. We understand (very intimately) how difficult it can be to sustain your work as an artist. We will never turn you away for lack of funds.
Visual art is excluded from this fee requirement. Payments can be made via Venmo: @Staindpublishers or PayPal
Submissions should be sent as individual attachments (JPEG or Word Document, please no PDFs) with an artist statement as a separate attachment. Each submission should be in a separate document. Send to submissions@staindmagazine.com with the subject line detailing what the submission is for (short story collection, online journal, etc). Please title each attachment. In the body of the email please include the title of the piece and your name as you’d like it to be published.
Please be thorough in checking your work for spelling and grammar errors, including em dashes (not hyphens), punctuation, etc.
Limit visual art submissions to 10 per publication. Image resolution should be 300 ppi.
Limit written submissions to 5 per publication. Written pieces should not exceed 4000 words.
Please add a note designating which submission this fee applies.
Pieces published in the print publications (short story and poetry collections) will receive 2+ contributor copies for publishing.
We are working on a way to pay for submissions to our online journal. Thanks for being patient with us as we wade through this world.
All submissions received during the reading period will be read. The response time will vary according to the number of submissions. We make every effort to respond to all submissions within six months of receipt.
